Head to White Mountain for great music in an awesome setting

If you’re looking for the ideal getaway, then head to White Mountain this September and experience acoustic performances by top and up-and-coming South African artists while soaking up the peaceful beauty of one of the most idyllic spots in the central Drakensberg.

Running from 24 to 28 September, the annual White Mountain Festival is held in the foothills of the Giant's Castle Nature Reserve in KZN, just 34km from Estcourt on tarred roads, 200km from Durban and 430km from Johannesburg. It offers five days of acoustic music in different settings – in White Mountain Lodge’s 150-year-old restaurant and pub (Tom’s Tavern), on the main marquee stage and around the pool.

Included in the line-up of over 40 live acts are Prime Circle, John Ellis of Tree63, Syd Kitchen, Van der Hoven featuring Henry Steel, Laurie Levine, Maisha, Black Cat Bone, Cabins in the Forest and many more.

Other attractions range from fun and games for the kids, to abseiling, fishing, boating, hiking, paintball and even a fuffi slide across a nearby 100m-wide gorge. There’s also a beer market featuring several local breweries, arts and crafts and a variety of food stalls catering for all tastes.

This is a festival for people who enjoy slightly more laid-back acoustic sounds. It’s an opportunity to hear the ‘softer’ side of some of SA’s top rock acts, and to appreciate the talents of contemporary, folk, blues and acoustic artists. So, if you like the idea of getting away from it all for a long weekend of great music in an awesome setting, then White Mountain is the place for you!

Tickets are available at Game stores in KZN (R350), Computicket (R400) and at the festival gate (R450). Children under 12 pay R50 – tickets at the gate only. The price includes camping in a beautiful site overlooking the dam.
